Bangka - The Island of Thousand Beaches

By Agustian Hermanto on September 14, 2009

My trip to Bangka, an island east of Sumatra, has been one of the most surprising of all my various trips. It surpassed my already-high expectation of the island. The highlight of the trip was the thousand beaches that I visited! Literally, there are no mountains on this island, just beaches. That’s why Bangka Island is the perfect spot for your winter getaway.

“Parai“ is the most popular beach on the island. It offers great blue sky and magnificent white sand beach. I initially went to the Parai Beach Resort and Spa to arrange for my accommodation. However, due to the popularity of the beach, I was not able to secure any rooms at all! Just a little tip for travelers, if you want to stay at this resort, make sure to book a room before your intended trip.

Another highlight of my trip was when I visited a local seaside market. This market is stocked with fresh seafood and bustling with fishermen’s activities. The surrounding environment is different from any other places on the island. For me, Bangka Island is the perfect spot to relax because of its slow pace of life.

hmmm...the island seems pretty crowded with people, eh?

but overall it still a very nice island! wonder if it's feels so hot in there!? or maybe the climate is just moderate over there!? (looks very windy though)

the big question for me is how the hotel and inns over there!? is it nice or most of them are just old inns or hotel? because if the hotel / inns are nice then it will enhance the holiday experience on that island.

PS: anymoo, i love the background music! can you tell what is the name of the song?!
  • Hi Ronwong,

    Thanks for the comment!
It feels rather warm on the island, given that it is located pretty near from the equator itself, but hey, most places in Indonesia are warm :)
When I went to Parai, the weather was really nice and it's a perfect spot to chill and get tanned.

As for hotels, they depend on your budget. Places such as Parai, Pangkal Pinang, Tanjung Pesona have great resort to stay in. Indeed, I do agree that better hotels can enhance holiday experiences. But again, if you are a more adventurous person, you might have a different choice of place.

The background music is from Clazziquai project called Gentle Rain.

    Much appreciated!
